I. Soul Society
In Rukia's mind, it takes very little time to make the decision. The stability of the worlds had to be maintained, and there were people that she cared about in some of the worlds. In fact, the Sou-taichou had suggested that was why Rukia was the best person to carry out this task. She had seen and interacted with the people of other worlds; her experience alone qualified her for the role.

The enormity of what she has agreed to doesn't strike Rukia until she is in the middle of a kidou setup, staring blankly at Renji. It's a good thing that they are in a private room - Nii-sama was kind enough to offer one of the rooms in the Kuchiki manor, once he had learned that Rukia would not be swayed - so that no one can see Rukia freeze.

Renji however, does spot it. "You can still back out," he tells her. "What they're asking of you, it ain't right."

Rukia wants to tell Renji he's wrong. It's not the what that isn't right - the what is using this kidou array to stabilise Soul Society and then replicating the effect across each of the worlds in turn. It's just that stating it in the above manner didn't really prepare Rukia for the how.

Basically, in Renji terms, it means powering a kidou array by fucking four men.

"It is acceptable," Rukia manages. "Perhaps we should remove our own clothes."

Rukia is glad when Renji turns to do so. She hadn't been thinking of sex when she put down Renji's name, but of the trust that they had between them from the friendship that they had resumed. It is good to see that that trust can stand even the awkwardness of this situation, Rukia thinks, as she unwinds her sash.

Eventually Rukia runs out of clothes to busy herself with. She turns, clad only in her under-kimono, and finds that Renji has been watching her. Also, he is naked. Completely, terribly and distractingly naked.

(And the tattoos do go all the way down.)

Rukia feels over-dressed under the weight of his gaze. Raising her chin, she unties her last sash, and forces herself not to look as the last of her clothes is dropped to the ground.

An unscrutable expression flits over Renji's face, but then it's back to the same concerned expression that he had earlier. Rukia ignores the change and pads over, because standing in the nude in the middle of the room was just too strange.

"You sure about this?" Renji asks, as she drops down beside him.

"No," she says. "But pretend that I am. For me."

"Alright." Renji starts to lean in, then catches himself. When Rukia raises an eyebrow, he gives a sheepish grin before leaning in to kiss her properly. It's gentle, almost sweet, that Rukia can almost forget the real reason that they're doing this. The idea of distracting herself makes Rukia repeat the kiss. Several times. It's especially welcome when Renji adds his hands to the mix and Rukia finds herself relaxing despite the strangeness of the situation.

Her guard goes back up when Renji pushes her down on the futon that has been prepared for them. "What are you doing?" she demands.

Renji pauses. Rukia finds watching the way he leans over her a little heady. "We mightn't like why we're here," he begins slowly. "But we can do it in a way we like. Will you let me try?"

Sentimental fool, Rukia thinks, but not unkindly. "Alright," she agrees.

II. Human World
When Rukia has finished telling Ichigo the sanitised version, his first response is, "When do we start?"

Rukia touches her sword hilt - a steadying gesture, not that she is in any danger here - and says carefully, "I didn't say it had to be you."

"It's my world that's in danger isn't it? I want to help."

"Idiot. What have I told you about rushing in to things! You don't know what exactly you have to do!" At some point Rukia clenched her fist; she forces herself to unclench it slowly. "Besides, Soul Society has marked Ishida as the best candidate."

"Him?" Ichigo grumbles. "Helping shinigami? You've got to be kidding."

"I had worried about that. I wonder if you know what I could say to convince him."

"I don't even know what he's thinking normally," Ichigo grumbles. "But I'll try. Spill - what's got you so bothered about saving the world this time?"

She tells him exactly what the kidou array is powered by. Ichigo's myriad of expressions is amusing.

"You're going to have sex with Ishida?" he yells.

Another story idea:
"Still 11 seconds?" Hirako asked.

Ichigo's cheeks burned. It wasn't as if he wanted to be stuck at 11 seconds, and no amount of smarm Hirako put in his voice was going to change that. For once, Hiyori seemed to agree. "Don't ask obvious questions, baldy!" she shot back, followed by her slipper.

The first thing Ichigo realised was that he felt good, really good. Muscles in his back that he didn't even realise were kinked up were loosening up. He rolled his shoulders to work out the knots entirely.

"Try your mask," said Hirako. Ichigo felt a flash of irritation, but it faded quickly. He did as he was told. It actually drew out easily, not with the edge that Ichigo was accustomed to. He felt like he could keep it on forever.

Hirako grinned. "And now we fight."

"Boring," said the Hollow.

Ichigo nearly dropped his sword; the hollow had never spoken to him while he wore the mask.

What?

"Boring boring boring," said the Hollow. "I've seen all her moves, your stance is horrid and it's boring!"

You don't get a say, I'm in charge and I'm training.

"Then make it stop. Make the boring fight stooooooop."

You can just -

The hollow isn't listening. Ichigo get the sense of something vaulting over his head and out -

The next moment, Ichigo finds himself in his inner world. Shit.

"BALDY. GET BACK HERE!"

Both Hiyori and Hirako stare as a masked Ichigo vaults out of the underground chamber.

Then Hiyori raises a slipper and whacks Hirako in the head. "I thought you said the drug was supposed to make the Hollow sleepy?"

"That's what it usually does!" Hirako protests. "It's not my fault that Ichigo had to be odd in this way too!"

"You should have thought of it! Now how the hell are we going to get him back?"

"..."

"..."

"I'll give Urahara a call."

Volume 1: Rukia inherits White Knight mantle from Byakuya and care of Karakura town. Renji congratulates her, but there is some underlying resentment since a) Byakuya groomed him, not Rukia, b) public sentiment is that the gig should have gone to Renji. But Renji is now the BABOON KING. Sora is the superhero who retired to take care of his sister (he has a bit of a Runaways background) and Ichigo shows up as Rukia's Lois Lane (i.e. the citizen who is always getting into trouble)

Volume 2: the Sora commits suicide arc. The Mask is testing out a serum (stolen from Urahara) that works something like the Green Goblin serum and Sora ends up as one of the victims. Rukia fights him but doesn't kill him (and has a lot of Kaien flashbacks in the meantime) but Sora takes his own life. Orihime is devasted. May move in with Rukia after that.

Volume 3: Rukia deals with a serial killer. Helps out the witness protection racket with Chad (probably a cop in this verse). At the end parakeet kid has to change his name and go away (since it's believed that the serial killer had a patron), which means Chad can't contact him. However, kid asks for Chad's address so the kid can write him when he's learnt how to protect himself.

Volume 4: Rukia loses her powers arc. Ichigo may or may not steal them, definitely takes on the White Knight mantle.

Volume 5: Pissed Byakuya and Renji beat up Ichigo, takes Rukia and mantle back. Rukia's powers still borked, but she's using her investigating skills to get to the bottom of it. Turns out that Byakuya gave Rukia the power inhibitor that Hisana was using, because there was an 82% chance that her powers would kill her too. BUT IT ISN'T, WAILS RUKIA, and forcibly removes the device. The Mask gets a hold of it and it later becomes the HOUGYOKU >D

Volume 6: THE MASK reveals himself. There is a happy happy showdown arc! TIME TO INTRODUCE MORE HEROES, INCLUDING CAPED ARCHER (Our dear Ishida) and THE GHOST

Volume 7: Probably where we're at now.

Volume 8: Renji dies! I dunno how. Don't worry he's not dead for long.

Volume 9: Rukia gets the Lois Lane treatment due to assumption that she's Renji's SO, and Ichigo makes startling revelations about The Ghost.

Volume 7
PAGE 1

PANEL

1. RUKIA in a diner, looking in a pensive manner out of the big glass at the shopfront. She is wearing something autumny and branded - should have a vest and boots. One hand is propping up her chin, the other is poking at something barely eaten on her plate. Panel should take up at least half the page or more.

2. SERVER brings a hot drink in a mug. Only the hand holding the tray with the drink should be visible in the foreground, the rest should be off-panel or shadowed. The back of Rukia's head is in the background, scene outside of window optional.

3. Startled Rukia looks over her shoulder at the server.

SERVER
You done with that?

PAGE 2

PANEL

1. Rukia is in the same position, but she is smiling now.

RUKIA
Ichigo.

2. Server, identified as ICHIGO, is smirking back at her. He is in a uniform with a nametag that says KUROSAKI ICHIGO. Go crazy with the design =)

ICHIGO
Rukia.

3. Ichigo sets the drink in front of her. Rukia appears stunned.

ICHIGO
You look like you needed some company.

4. Rukia puts on a serious face. Her half-eaten food is in front of her.

RUKIA
How could you tell?

5. Pull back to the two of them seated on either side of the table looking at each other, the rest of the restaurant muted in the background.

6. Same scene as above, only with the both of them laughing instead. (SFX: HA HA HA HA)

PAGE 3

PANEL

1. Ichigo shoves the drink to Rukia.

ICHIGO
I thought you were the smart one, you tell me.

2. Rukia sips at the drink, her superior expression half-hidden by the mug.

RUKIA
Someone has to be around here, since brains appear to be in short supply.

(Text outside speech bubble)
Mmmm, hot chocolate.

3. Ichigo scowls at Rukia.

ICHIGO
Hey, is that any way to treat someone who just got you a drink?

RUKIA
That's why you're stupid. Are servers on duty allowed to sit and chat with customers?

4. Scene focus on Ichigo, who is pulling off his nametag.

ICHIGO
Nah, I'm off duty. Besides, if Urahara tries to fire me I'll just quit. It's just a job to get me out of the house. Enough about me - what's bugging you?

5. Rukia stares down at the mug that she has clasped in both hands, pensive look on her face again.

RUKIA
When is something not bugging me?

PAGE 4 and 5

SPLASHPAGE
1. A night scene over Karakura city. Think skyscrapers instead of a small sleepy town. In the foreground, there is a woman with Rukia's hairstyle in a cape. The tips of her mask should be showing just above her head.

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
KARAKURA CITY - It is a beautiful city

PAGE 6

PANEL
1. View of Rukia in her superhero costume from the front, shoulders upwards. She looks sad.

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
It is also a tragic city.

2. Gangs are beating up people and smashing shop windows

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
Some years ago, The Mask* decided to make Karakura City his base. At first it started small, with petty thugs -

Bottom text: *Supervillian first introduced in White Knight Vol 1

3. Cut to a typical mobster, lounging back in his chair as his followers count cash and bags of drugs.

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
Then crime syndicates -

4. A shadowed group of people in costumes. Some are standing, some are lounging on couches and chairs.

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
And finally, supervillains.

PAGE 7

PANEL
1. Cut to Rukia in her superhero costume, who looks determined now.

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
That is why -

2. Shot of Rukia jumping off a building in a dynamic pose.

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
I take care of the city.

PAGE 8

PANEL
1. Cut back to Rukia still looking pensively in her cup

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
Which is why there's always something worrying me.

2. Cut to Ichigo, who is leaning forward with a concerned expression, eyebrows more furrowed than usual.

RUKIA (Internal Monologue)
Ichigo knows though*

Box text: * White Knight Volume 4

3. Ichigo turns away and rubs the back of his head.

ICHIGO
Yeah, I know the town's always got you worried and all, but it's always something specific that sets you off. Increase in crimes, sexist remarks from thugs, The Ghost -

4. Ichigo looks in shock at the mug that Rukia has banged on the table. (SFX: BAM!)

5. Rukia glares at Ichigo, practically radiating annoyance.

RUKIA
Don't. Ever. Mention. Him. In front of me.

PAGE 9

PANEL
1. Ichigo shoots her a cocky grin.

ICHIGO
Knew I'd get a rise out of you with that.

2. Rukia has tuned down her glare to "I can't believe you did that".

RUKIA
He is offensive.

3. Ichigo scowls at Rukia, who has picked up her mug and is acting indifferent again. Behind them, the startled patrons are staring at them.

ICHIGO
You're acting like your brother again.

RUKIA
Thank you.

ICHIGO
What the hell did The Ghost do to piss you off anyway?

4. Rukia is still acting indifferent as she brings her cup to her mouth.

RUKIA
What doesn't he do?

PAGE 10

PANEL
1. Black background with THE GHOST appearing as a completely white figure with no details inside the figure. The spiky hair should be prominent.

RUKIA (Voiceover)
They call him a superhero, but -

2. Close-up of his grin, which is not a nice one. His face is all white, no other features apart from his grin. Preference for black background, but something neutral is fine.

RUKIA (Voiceover)
He's cocky, he's crass -

3. The Ghost is a white figure with a Cheshire Cat grin, similar to the one in the previous panel. He is fighting thugs who only appear as white outlines against a black background.

RUKIA (Voiceover)
He's violent.

PAGE 11

FULL PAGE
The white figure of The Ghost continues to grin his Chershire Cat grin over the white outline of a fallen thug. Red blood is flowing from the body of the thug.

RUKIA (Voiceover)
Honestly, he's no better than the thugs he fights.

PAGE 12

PANEL

1. Scene shift back to the cafe. Rukia is sipping her hot chocolate, and Ichigo is sitting sideways in his seat, looking annoyed.

RUKIA
Shall I go on?

ICHIGO
Nah, I'm good.

You can't deny he's done something for Karakura though.

2. Close-up of Rukia, who is now staring down at the rim of her tilted mug. She looks pensive.

RUKIA
Yes...

3. Focus on Rukia's hand putting the mug down on the table. (SFX: tock)

4. Larger shot of Rukia letting out a huff of air and pushing the mug away with both hands.

RUKIA
Doesn't mean I have to like it.

PAGE 13

PANEL
1. SPAWLING mansion on a hill. Think Wayne Manor, except 1 storey high (because this is a Japan mansion XD)

(Come to think of it Byakuya should be the White Samurai, but eh, let's just assume that the term didn't make it across the translation gap.)

RUKIA (Inner Monologue)
This.... is home.

2. Rukia is pushing open heavy wooden doors, which she is framed by. The doors look solid, but simple in design.

3. A team of HOUSEKEEPING STAFF are standing in a long corridor, all bowing in subservience. The decoration of the corridor should again be simple and traditional. Think flowing lines and subtle carvings.

4. Rukia has a resigned look on her face.

RUKIA (Inner Monologue)
It sometimes doesn't feel that way.

PAGE 14

PANEL

1. Rukia peeps around a wooden door, smaller than the one at the entrance but of a similar design. She looks at the occupant of the room tentatively.

RUKIA
Nii-sama?

2. Rukia is looking at the diagonal view of a large study dominated by wall-high shelves of books. Like the doors, everything is made of sturdy wood with simple and subtle designs. BYAKUYA is sitting in the middle of it all at a desk also overflowing with books, apart from a carefully cleared space with a single open book where he has been working. There should be a round high window set in the wall to his left.

BYAKUYA
Rukia. Welcome home.

You're late. Inoue has been waiting for you.

PAGE 15

PANEL
1. Rukia steps into the room, clearly startled. She has already taken off her boots and is padding around in socks/stockings.

RUKIA
Has she been waiting long? I did call her -

BYAKUYA (off-panel)
She's waiting.

2. Rukia's eyes blaze with anger, and her mouth is a thin pinched line.

3. Rukia lowers her eyes, although not all the anger has faded from her expression.

RUKIA
Yes, Nii-sama.

4. Rukia is walking along a wooden corridor. Behind her, we can see that one side opens up to an ornate garden. There are some Zen garden stones, but it is dominated by flowers.

RUKIA (Inner monologue)
He means well.

PAGE 16

PANEL
1. Rukia slides open a traditional paper door, pensive expression back on her face.

2. ORIHIME is sprawled out on a futon in the middle of the room, lollipop held in her mouth and an open magazine in her hand. She is looking upwards with wide surprised eyes. Her blouse is ruffled and summery, and she is wearing tiny shorts with stockings.

The rest of the room is all polished wooden floor, and boxes filled with things piled at one corner. There is also a cupboard against one of the walls. The room should still appear quite empty, even with the focus on Orihime.

3. Orihime springs to her feet and opens her arms wide, with the lollipop still in her mouth and the magazine swinging from one hand.

ORIHIME
WELCOME BACK!

I hope you don't mind that I came over so early, the FRESH magazine just came out, and I thought that it would be better to bring it to you immediately since it's FRESH. And they have order forms for the Chappy calendar too!

(Text outside speech bubble)
What's with the sad face?

4. Rukia takes the magazine while smiling gently at Orihime.

RUKIA
Wow! Have you ordered yours yet?

(Text outside of speech bubble)
It's nothing.

ORIHIME
I can't decide between that or Seaweed Ambassador or the sweets! Mou, it's so hard.

(Text outside of speech bubble)
Really? I'm willing to listen...

RUKIA
laughs You don't need so many calendars! Pick one!

(Text outside of speech bubble)
Thanks, I'm fine.

4. Orihime makes a mock angry face and pushes the magazine to Rukia.

ORIHIME
You do it for me! And when you're done, I've got lots more magazines where that came from.

RUKIA
Alright, I'll just roll out my futon.

ORIHIME
Mmm, no need! You can share the guest futon with me!

PAGE 17

PANEL

1. Orihime is lying with her head pillowed on her arms, watching Rukia. She does not have a lollipop in her mouth anymore. Rukia has ditched her vest and is on Orihime's left, lying on her front and reading a magazine. There is a pile of magazine by Rukia's left elbow.

2. Focus on Orihime looking down towards the futon, although her position hasn't shifted.

ORIHIME
Rukia...

3. Startled Rukia looks up from her magazine.

ORIHIME
What's it like to be a superhero?

4. Rukia puts down her magazine and rests her head on her arms too.

RUKIA
Amazing... and a little frightening.

PAGE 18

PANEL
1. Flashback - Rukia has her eyes closed, focused on gathering ice in her cupped hands. The glow reflects on her face.

RUKIA
You remember the rush when you first used your powers? Just think of that mix of emotions.

2. Rukia opens her eyes and her hair is whipped back by the force of the power in her hands.

RUKIA
Now imagine that at that very moment you learned that your powers were going to save someone. And that only you could do it.

3. A wall of ice has successfully shielded a group of people from a landslide. There are some people quaking in fear on the ground just behind her shield.

RUKIA
Amazing, isn't it?

ORIHIME
Yes... but also frightening.

Now I know why you said that. What if you couldn't save all those people?

4. A full body view of Rukia reveals that she is wearing the White Knight costume with no mask. She looks grim.

RUKIA
Being a superhero isn't just about power, it's also about responsibility.

5. Cut back to Orihime and Rukia in the room, both still with their heads pillowed on their arms.

RUKIA
You don't set out to save someone thinking that you'll fail them. You HAVE to save them.

PAGE 19

PANEL
1. Orihime's hair has fallen to cover her hands and her face.

ORIHIME
I wonder if that was how my brother felt.

2. Close up of Rukia's face, her eyes wide

3. Rukia's expression has changed to one of determination, her eyes sharp and focused on Orihime.

4. With the same expression, Rukia stands, one hand palm up and reaching forward in front of her.

RUKIA
Stand.

PAGE 20

1. Orihime is kneeling on the futon. She looks up at the silhouette of Rukia in the foreground, a surprised expression on her face.

2. Side view of Rukia's determined face.

RUKIA
You've made your own decisions -

3. Side view of Orihime's face. She looks a little amazed, a little excited, but also a little frightened.

RUKIA
- just as your brother made his.

4. The same view as page 19, panel 4, only that Rukia is now smiling.

RUKIA
Time to follow through.

PAGE 21
1. Orihime smiles back at Rukia, excitment and determination the only clear expressions on her face.

ORIHIME
Yes -

2. Close-up of Orihime's hand in Rukia's hand.

ORIHIME
It's time to train.

3. Montage of Orihime sparring with Rukia. Orihime is still in her summery blouse, tiny shorts and stockings. However, Rukia has changed her clothes to a tank top and loose yoga pants. Orihime tends to favour high kicks in her sparring.
