Here we are at the end!

21. What's your favourite thing about Dreamwidth?

The space it gives me - I am most myself on this website than anywhere else, and I can wander into other people's spaces as and when I want.

Thanks to the Dreamwidth team and all the other users here!

So today's question is 20. Any questions from the audience?, which means I'll be throwing open the comment section to questions, and will reply there. Anything and everything is game!

From [personal profile] finch's version:

19. What are you most interested in reading?

Any fanfiction, including badfics and pr0n if there's nothing to squicky. Followed by meta of any sort, if I understand enough of the issues to follow.

That was quick!

18. What don't you talk about here, either because it's too personal or because you don't have the energy?

Almost anything that isn't fannish. I'm not comfortable with talking about my work, and talking about my RL friends who don't have a DW is a no-no, because I can't really think up nicknames for them that aren't immediately identifiable. (Ah, I long for generic names like Roomie! Unfortunately, if I applied that to my RL friends the majority would default to Ex-classmate At Some Point.)

On Bleach - CHAD IS AN ACCOUNTANT. YEYZ.

Also Hime getting to use her powers! *FISTPUMP* I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next week.

Back to [personal profile] finch's meme: 17. How many people on your reading list have you met IRL?

3. One is an old friend from my teens, another I met up with when I went on holiday in Australia and yet another I met up with when I went on holiday in the US.

You guys know who you are <3

If I extend this to my LJ f-list, the number goes up to 14, because my LJ f-list is a mix of my RL friends, other people I met up with when I went to the US and people who came to Singapore. XD

I've been reading She's Kind of a Big Deal that I was pleasantly surprised to see today's Google feature was on Martha Graham, dancer and choreographer, another awesome lady that I'd never heard of before. And the animation for this occasion is AWESOME. (Warning, I can't view vids at work so I simply yanked the first video off Google's results.)

We need to learn more about these awesome role models yo!

Today's question: 16. What are you glad you did but haven't really had a chance to post about?

In quick point form:

1) My Sydney trip (still collating photos, but I think I'm more or less done).

2) The AMV I did

3) Reactions to Puella Magi Madoka Magica Eps 4 and 5

4) Drinking of awesome bubble tea, including Yakult flavoured bubble tea

5) Yesterday night's outing, which included okonomiyaki, half-price desserts, anime geeking and debates on whether we and/or various anime characters would contract with Kyuubei.

(Current status on anime characters contracting with Kyuubei:
Contract - Most of the Bleach cast
Not contract - All the good guys in Ruroni Kenshin

YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR MY POST TO FIND OUT WHY.)

Getting rushed off my feet =PPP I WILL DO MY BEST

15. What 5 things are you obsessed with currently?

Other than DW, I am:

- Watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which is shaping up to be a sob fest. It doesn't help that the ending theme keeps running around my head.

- Finding out more about the ladies in She's Kind of a Big Deal, because I get a kick out of learning about awesome ladies in real life.

- Following Bleach, because it always haunts me even when I'm not reading/writing about it.

- Starting The Couch to 5k program, because I need to exercise more.

- hanging out on Star.me, because it's fun and cute to throw stars at my friends!

Missed a day yesterday due to Mother's Day, so it's two questions for today! Questions are from [personal profile] finch's version of the meme.

13. Do you have any unique interests on your user profile? What are they? How'd they get there?

Yes, I have BFFB and things with a beat. I talked about them in the last post, and they're both from chat convos with the ladies.

14. What is your favourite subject to discuss on Dreamwidth?

Mostly fannish stuff, esp fanfiction. I do follow some of the discussions on other communities, but not closely enough to discuss them on my own DW.

From [personal profile] finch's version

12. What do you consider the 10 most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why?

I wasn't quite sure whether I even had 10 interests, but apparently I do! Here are my most telling interests:

BFFB - This stands for Best Friends Forever with Benefits, because Heterosexual Life Partners (as defined by TV Tropes) is boring and pr0n is always better =D And the best part about BFFB is that it can refer to guy-girl partnerships too!

Bleach - The fandom that eats my brain, most of the time.

Chinese wuxia - I have a soft spot for wuxia because there are so many awesome wuxia stories and I want to read them all!

Creating, writing - Cheating by putting two interests here. Writing is what I mainly do, but I also like creating in general. I like making AMVs, doing ship models and drawing (but I don't promise to be very good with any of these.

Fantasy - The primary genre that I love. GIVE ME SOME MAGIC, I'LL BE THERE.

Science fiction - The second genre that I love. TECHNOLOGY IS AWESOME. And the great thing is that you can marry it with fantasy and add two great tastes together!

Justice League - The animated series was my intro to fandom. Before that, I didn't interact much with other fans outside of my friends, but through the Justice League messageboards I started to talk to fans from the rest of the world too!

Learning new languages - I'm trying to pick up Japanese now.

Things with a beat - This was how one of my friends described my taste in music, and I have to agree with her. Anything with good bass, drums, other distinctive beats is up my street =D

Based on [personal profile] finch's version:

11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently

I would love the multiple drafts function that DW said they'd be putting in a while back, but I'm willing to wait. Another one is the image storage that doubles up as extra icon space. Maybe that's a paid feature? I'll have to check.

Otherwise I've been pretty happy with the DW experience! Many thanks to the staff for making this space so awesome!

From [personal profile] finch's version of the meme:
10. Pick 10 random icons from your userpics and tell me about them.

Apples, three fallen outside and others in a basket - I like apples, and these apples are nice and red and glossy, just the way I like them. I use this for neutral non-fandom stuff. Toph from Avatar with her hand outstretched - because Toph is badass, and she's got a grace in this icon which people rarely notice.
Text icon saying wishing that heroes they truly exist - lyric from Oops I did it again - Because everyone needs more bad pop in their life, and sometimes I feel that way.
Text icon saying HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO TILL THE END OF THE NIGHT - Self-explanatory. For extra brain breakage, I like to imagine this in the way the Fairy Godmother sang Holding Out For a Hero in Shrek 2.
Ichigo from Bleach with half a Hollow mask and a Hollow eye - I LOOOOOOOVE Ichigo with Hollow eyes, so when I saw this I had to gank it for use. He looks sad here so I use it for a sad icon. Gif of Karakura people from Bleach, with text "Best friends means I pull the trigger" - One of my rare group icons, and one that I like to use when talking about Bleach in general. I feel it encapsules the friendships of Ichigo quite well.
Ichigo with kitty ears - Dorky pic with a dorky story. This is an actual crop from Bleach manga, and the icon maker just lengthened some of Ichigo's hair and added pink to make kitty ears! Could not stop lulz. This is my DOOOOOOOOOORK icon. IchiRuki sketch with XOXOXO - This embodies what I think of IchiRuki actually. Ichigo being a dork with a SWORD DRIPPING WITH BLOOD and scowly Rukia. And XO and hearts all over the place.
Orihime looking pensive - This is my Orihime icon. I like the textures on this. One day I will have a Happy Hime icon to replace this Rukia with blue skies behind her - This is my Rukia icon. It's a very calming icon that I use for thoughts.

Yet another qn where what I'm writing deviates from the norm.

9. Tell me about your default icon.

Once upon a time, I had the mad idea of making lyric icons for each mood in the moodtheme. I never quite finished it (got stuck at G) but this icon is part of the set.

This icon has lyrics from Morning Rain by I am Kloot. I like this icon the most because I'm a morning person and feel like the morning rain sometimes. =D

There seem to be different versions of this floating around, but I'll just answer according to the version I have.

8. What is your philosophy on journal layouts?

I love journal layouts. I would try designing layouts if not for the fact that Blogger alone drives me up the wall and there are so many more things to break on DW. XD

Unfortunately, since I tend to surf DW at work, my philosophy for journal layouts tend towards nice headers with clean, simple (usually white) layouts. It's boring but functional.

7. What is your favourite community on Dreamwidth?

Do I have to choose? D= I like all the comms in my profile! For different reasons of course. [community profile] smallbatchicons has bite-sized posts of happiness in 100x100 form. [community profile] scans_daily is the most prolific. [community profile] shoes caters to the fashionista in me, but [community profile] common_nature always leaves me quietly in awe.

I suspect this is late, but given that I've been totally ignoring my own timezone when posting, I guess it's ok *wink*

6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?

Hmmm. I'd like people to know that I'm a writer by craft, but sometimes I branch out into making fanvids and banners and stuff like that. However, since I'm still stuck with Windows Movie Maker I have not dared to post anything I've completed. (Oh Adobe how I miss you!)

Next - I hate pegholing. Anyone who's seen me knows that I'm a girly girl who loves her skirts, but those who know me well are aware I'm very much in love with action too. Give me Transformers! Bleach! Justice League! Superheroes! Explosions!

Having said that, I do like me some Card Captor Sakura too. =D I did mention I hate pegholing~

I think that's about it! Oh, and I am really trying to get my Sydney trip photos up, but they're still being collated XDXDXD

I've been lurking on the three weeks for dreamwidth feed (also can be found under the "Latest Things" section), and OMG so much content you guys! Here are some things I've geeked over in the last few days:

- DW is at it's best when it comes to creating knowledge and sharing awareness. An awesome example of this is She's Kind of a Big Deal started by [personal profile] ar. Go and read about awesome non-fiction women!

- Frequently (Or Not So Frequently) Asked Questions is awesome too.

- On the creative front, there are prompt posts such as the Female Character Trope Fest being run by [personal profile] such_heights and picture prompts with pics contributed by [personal profile] untonuggan

- I love fandom pimp posts. Especially if they come with picspam. That's why I was all over [personal profile] penny's picspam of G.I. Joe Renegades like white on rice. EVEN THOUGH I'M NOT IN THE FANDOM.

- Music rec posts make my day. I already like Big Bang, but this song recced by [personal profile] painless is new to me.

After all those links, time for meme!

5. How about when you're not on the computer?

I spend 10 hour days at work, so when I'm not vegging out in front of the computer I'm vegging out in front of the TV. I mostly borrow DVDs but sometimes I follow dramas. Currently I'm following a Chinese detective-wuxia THE FOUR and the K-drama Dong Yi.

I'm also a foodie, so I eat out quite a bit with parents and friends. And watch movies in actual cinemas. I've also gotten into the habit of walking after work.

4. What do you do online when you're not on DW?

Oh man, a ton of things. On a daily basis, I check my 4 (!!!) emails. I also turn on MSN and Gchat (which has AIM loaded) to see if anyone I know is on. I also check twitter, and use it for communication at work (since chat doesn't work there). Then I'll read the blogs of my friends who aren't on DW or LJ. Google and Wikipedia are my friends, since I always have a topic in my head that needs researching.

At least once a week I'll read Bleach. Then I'll hit up pixiv and uh, other image websites (*wink wink nudge nudge*). I also watch MVs for songs I like on Youtube.

Other things I'll look at but not regularly - read movie reviews. watch movie trailers online. If I'm really bored, read fanfiction from Delicious links or FF.net (!!!).

3. Do you use other blogging sites? Why or why not?

The short answer: Yes, Blogger and LJ for historical reasons.

The long answer: I've always been resistant to journalling sites, because I feel quitely keenly about private and public lives. I'm of the view that certain things are definitely not aired in public.

The long answer got really long )

Nowadays I tend to cross-post only fannish squee and completed fic to LJ, while the rest stays on DW. As for Blogger, I haven't been able to update it as my RL is subject to company restrictions (Long story, not at liberty to tell). But I still post to my blog now and then.

No links, because I like to keep things separate. =)

I have rediscovered the Tell a friend/Share this Entry function on DW (either a text link or a mail icon at the bottom of posts, depending on what layout you're using). I have found it very useful for forwarding posts to myself that I want to reread - once I memory something I only come back to it a gazillion years later (Note: an exaggeration, but probably true in Internet time).

Yay DW functions!

In the interest of celebrating DW more, have some meme.

2. Why did you choose your journal name? What does it mean?

I've always gone for journal names that could be vaguely a real name. That's why some of my other handles like moonfrost (which I'm awfully fond of) weren't options.

Since I'm pretty rotten with names, I've always had a few on stand-by. Faye Chua is one of them, and the most realistic of the lot. It's the name I used for my FF.net profile, and also the name I fantasised writing under someday. XD It has my favourite elements - a first name with a meaning I like, and a surname that starts with Ch- (weird, I know, but that's how I roll). I got the name Faye from a baby name book, and Chua is the surname of one of my school seniors.

But by the time I got to DW the name "faye" was taken, and I didn't want to use faye_chua. "fay" was taken too. Since the e was optional for me, I then thought of my journal as fay(e), which was parsed to fay_e.

I wrote a few possible meanings of Faye under my profile, pick the one you like =D

For those who are new to this dw, hallo! *waves* I'm fay-e, and I like to use my dw as a jotter book, which means a lot of WIPs are posted here once they reach a critical enough mass for sharing.

I can't believe it's been more than a year since I set up my dw. I figured this out after finding out that 3 Weeks for Dreamwdith is back again! But after the disaster that was last year's 3 Weeks, I was a bit leery of signing up for this year's fest. I don't have anything planned for this year, and I still haven't finished what I started out to do for last year's fest. *looks at her icons and sighs*

But! I found a meme by [personal profile] finch for 3 Weeks for Dreamwidth, and that I can do. =) Please assume I'm operating in a time zone not my own XD

1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth? )

Rest of questions )
