Title: Between the raindrops
Day/Theme: 11. I loved you on rainy days and sunny days.
Series: Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Characters/pairings: Sayaka and Madoka
Rating: PG
Content Notes: Rain is alright with a friend. Set pre-series.
It’s raining, and Sayaka has forgotten to bring an umbrella. The awning is nice and big and great at shielding Sayaka from the rain, but it’s blocking her view. She has to lean forward to get a proper look at the clouds. They aren’t too dark, but there’s a lot of them.
Next to her, Madoka is rummaging through her bag, probably crumpling papers from the sound of it. “Oh no, I left my umbrella at hooooome!”
Sayaka straightens and turns to her friend. “And you left your cell phone at home too so you can’t ask your dad to drive over and pick us up huh?”
Madoka rubs the back of her head. “Eh heh heh.”
That’s Madoka for you. Sayaka reaches out and messes up Madoka’s hair further with a good hair ruffle. “Well, there’s only one thing to do.”
“Eh? And stop doing that Sayaka! My ribbons are coming loose.” She steps away and fixes her hair. She doesn’t get too far, for Sayaka grabs her hand.
“We’ve got to run for it!”
Before her friend can protest Sayaka drags her into the rain. They run through the driving downpour and wet puddles until they’re laughing with the absurdity of how wet they are. Finally Sayaka has to stop, breathless from running and laughing. Madoka finally gets to fix her ribbons, even though they’re all soaked through.
“We’re going to be scolded when we get home, for playing in the rain like little kids!” Madoka points out.
“I know. I don’t care.” Sayaka shields her eyes and peers up at the clouds again. They have shifted to let a bit of sun through, but it’s still raining hard. “Say, do you think we’ll see a rainbow?”
“I hope so!” This time, it’s Madoka who tugs Sayaka along. “Let’s get out of the rain quickly. We don’t want to catch a cold.”
“Aye aye captain!” Sayaka salutes with her free hand, and then they are running and laughing again, two friends in the rain.
