bleach_onion and this chapter is ripe for comparisons with early Bleach, here are some quick points.
COVER PAGE
- ICHIGO WITH BADGE but he looks sad
- "Mysterious" dude in background.
Page 1
- Timestamp!
We actually get two timestamps in Chapter 1 of Bleach - One is Rukia's, which is 2:34am on a Friday. Ichigo's is later on, and his is 7:13 pm on a Friday.
In 424 we only get Ichigo's timestamp - 7am on a Monday.
- No morning kicks to the head. ;_;
- Ten is gleeful that Ichigo is now 17. *giggles evilly*
- Everyone has pointed this out, but it bears repeating - Repeat of Ichigo's stats from chapter 1, except that he has no special ability
- Also, the tone of the chapter is totally different - Chapter 1 starts with asskicking Ichigo, Chapter 424 starts with sleepy Ichigo.
Colour spread
- SPREAD WITH REVERSED FILMSTRIP AND SWORD AND COAT
and no Rukia ;_;
- Everyone has their backs to Ichigo, possibly to show off their longer hair. Almost the same composition as the spread in Chapter 1, except no more Hirako and Matsumoto like lady. Left to right I think that's Mizuiro and Keigo then Tatsuki, Orihime, Ishida, Chad, someone who is apparently Karin, but eh, I don't buy it
- Ichigo is roughly facing the same direction in both spreads.
- Let's take a minute to talk about clothes! I like how in Chapter 424, Ichigo's got on a white long-sleeved shirt - and the only design is a coat of arms like thing which I can't really see cause it's struck out by the Bleach colours. Meaning an Ichigo who has lost his powers?
- LOL I just figured out that chapter 1 spread Ichigo has a 15 on his blue shirt. It's the dots. Link to spread.
- The shinigami uniform that Ichigo has slung over his shoulder is frayed at the edges.
- I didn't notice this but Ten did - there is an eye in the sword behind Ichigo. Mysterious dude! The sword and the eye look kinda ominous.
- Also a new path reflected in the eyes huh? Wonder what that is.

- Yuzu is cute. And she's got strawberry hair accessories again.
- Ichigo is kind of dumbfounded. Also rocking a plain black shirt. Ten mentions that he used to favour lighter colours in the past. Missing being a shinigami, boy?
- Also we start with a meal, like we did in Chapter 1. Ichigo doesn't skip this meal though.
- Ten says that the entrance ceremony is in April. So Ichigo is turning 18 soon!

- Fierce Yuzu is fierce!
- Also she totally rules the kitchen.

- FIRST SIGN OF SPIRITS SINCE THIS CHAPTER STARTED
- Karin so blase. But her hair is awesome.
- Isshin is choosing between polka dots and STARS. Good to see that he's still exuberent.

- Poor Yuzu. This reminds me of when Ichigo first disappeared, and Isshin went to comfort her.
- Also Ichigo keeps looking to the SKYYYY. Reminds me of Chapter 423 when he said goodbye.
Page 6
- Mizuiro! no Keigo. Mizuiro looks sad too.
- KARIN'S THE HI-SPEC MEDIUM NOW. Throwback to Bleach chapter 1, where Karin says to Ichigo it must be tough having high specs.
- Only Yuzu says goodbye to Ichigo. Wonder whether Isshin and Karin are pissed off with him?

-Ichigo noticing Karin being annoyed by ghosts. YEAH OBVIOUSLY. She still hasn't confronted him over being shinigami and BLOWING HER OFF, but I remain hopeful.
- Keigo's silly face at the bottom.
- This is where it deviates from volume 1 a bit. In there, the order we get by appearance is Orihime, Tatsuki and Mizuiro before Rukia comes in and messes everything up. We don't see Keigo until much much later.

- Ichigo still laying the smackdown on Keigo. Also Keigo now wears flip-flops.
- Mizuiro's in a different class!
- And then we get Tatsuki. With longer hair. It's a cool throwback to chapter -18 that Ichigo and Tatsuki play fighting games together.

- And Ichigo spots his badge. He claims the powers have disappeared from it. Ten says he is very naive.
- Luckily, Tatsuki gets him out of his funk. Yay for childhood friends!
- So the badge means NOTHING to him, but he starts playing with it the moment he sees it

- His only proof ;_;
- Ishida! RUNNING OUT. NO EYE CONTACT.
Page 11
- It's kind of dumb to make Quincies go after Hollows, since they terminate them FOREVER. Even Ichigo comments on it.
- And Ichigo puts the badge down when he mentions Soul Society. ;_;
- Rukia gets half a page. o_O
Page 12
- And now we fly all the way to throwbacks from volume 3 with Keigo and Ichigo at lunch on the rooftop. Juice box for Ichigo!
- Ichigo is still looking at the sky. He also doesn't care about his grades. AFTER THE BIG DEAL YOU MADE ICHIGO.
- Mizuiro didn't turn up D=
- Mentions of Rukia!

- Ten mentioned his ridiculously averted EYES
- Like hell I'd be ;_;

- Ichigo claims he wants to be normal. With his back turned.
- But Keigo is heartfelt about not wanting to have any more scary experiences.
- Text about being normal while looking at the SKY

- At least Mizuiro, Keigo and Ichigo all go home together.
- Also, thief!

- Mizuiro looks so happy to be catching the bag.
- OTHER PROOF OF ICHIGO'S SHINIGAMI POWERS - BEING ABLE TO PUNCH PEOPLE
- Also this is closer to chapter 1, since chapter 1 starts with Ichigo beating up on punks.
