I might not look it, but once upon a time I was a classical geek. Even on my recent Sydney trip, when I heard the orchestra tuning up in the concert hall I was all ;_;
It's rather surprising though that Puella Magi Madoka Magica is rekindling this love for orchestra pieces. There's a professional violinist in the show, but he doesn't get to perform much. Moreover, his pieces don't make me long for more. I consider good music as something you feel in your soul.
This has been happening with the fan adaptation of the PMMM soundtrack. There's this piece called the Oktavia, which I usually like better as a string orchestra version. However, this is the only version that gave me heebe jeebes even though I wasn't paying attention to it. It was a piece I could feel in my soul.
CHILLS MAN. CHILLS.
That's not the only piece though! There's another series of orchestra adaptations that includes my fave piece: Magia, the ending theme for the show. It's a hard song to get right, but these fans did it - enough brass, woodwind at the soaring bits and yet still managed to include the bells. EPIC, REALLY EPIC. Their take on the opening, Connect, was pretty good too!
In conclusion: WANT TO HEAR ORCHESTRA MUSIC SO MUCH RIGHT NOW.
And hopefully DW will not eat my youtube vids again...
