The "Maid At Your Door" Meme

It happens to everyone - sometimes, you have nights where you just can't fall asleep, no matter what you do. It could be for a number of reasons, or no reason at all. And this is what's happened now: you've been laying in bed for what feels like hours, just tossing and turning, and nothing seems to help. So what's left to do? Get out of bed and go wake someone else up, of course. Yesterday, I made both these and these lemon cupcakes. I did both with a whisk and I liked that they didn't require the stand mixer.
The first ones were quite different than a typical lemon cupcake recipe - they had ricotta and honey in them, and I used this fancy lemon honey I had and I think that was a mistake. The cupcakes domed brilliantly, but had a weird aftertaste I did not like and the only thing I can think that could cause it was that honey. I otherwise used sour cream instead of creme fraiche, and olive oil for vegetable oil, but neither of those things should have caused the weird aftertaste. So maybe I'll eventually work my way back to that recipe (chosen because I have ricotta in my fridge that needs using up) and use clover honey and see how they are.
I think the second recipe is going to be my go-to for lemon for now. The batter is a super weird texture - it looked like curdled custard, or maybe bad cafeteria scrambled eggs - but the cupcakes are moist and lemony, though I guess the real test will be how they taste tomorrow, since if I'm taking them to work, I'll bake them on Sunday and bring them to the office on Tuesday, so they have to be good for that long. I made this strawberry cream cheese frosting this afternoon, but it wasn't stiff enough to pipe (not a euphemism) since I only used 2 cups of powdered sugar (and still think it is pretty sweet), so I just dipped the cupcakes into it. (I also did not make strawberry puree, I used 3 tbsps of seedless strawberry jam instead.) The tang of the cream cheese goes well with lemon and also helps cut through the sweetness of the frosting, so it worked pretty well, I thought. Next week, though, I plan to make strawberry Swiss meringue buttercream, which is much less sweet. We'll see how it goes.
I also tried to make homemade bbq sauce but I did not like how it tasted at all, so I didn't use it. Next time maybe I will try something that has no tomato base at all. Regardless, I cooked both racks of ribs and they were delicious and I will be eating ribs all week. I also made my own cole slaw dressing again, and this time I liked it better because I added onion and garlic powder - it is mind-boggling to me that the recipe doesn't include that and the first time around I just let it go but come on. Season your food!
So this weekend was delicious but so fucking messy - I ended up with egg yolk, bbq sauce, frosting, lemonade, and hot pork juice (not a euphemism!!! the ribs cook for 3 hours wrapped in foil and then for the last hour you take the foil off and it is a precarious situation!) on my shirt, but not all at the same time, thankfully.

 It doesn't matter why, but you're either in the middle of making out with someone or you're about it. Pretty hot and heavy, too. Who knows how you got there -- that's mostly up to you. All you know is that you're not going to feel satisfied until you're flushed and barely breathing. LOCATIONS: 01. roof: maybe you were given a note, or were dragged up by the person you're currently macking on. either way, you're definitely on the rooftop of some building, away from prying eyes. 02. school/office: you might be at the office, or maybe you just finished your last class for the day; regardless of where you might be, it sure isn't a good place to be making out with someone-- oops. 03. movie theater: the go-to place for most makeouts. sitting in the back or off to the side; just make sure no one catches you! 04. backstage: maybe you won tickets to a concert, perhaps you performed or they did, maybe you even snuck in! but you're backstage somewhere for something, getting hot and heavy in the dark corners. 05. public: out for a walk, having a picnic, maybe you're swimming! but regardless of where you are, it's in public. 06. home: whether you're are at your house, theirs, or someone elses, you're getting down and naughty inside a home of some design. 07. wildcard: re-roll, combine, pick your own, or make one up! "If you do not mind, Ambassador Thek." She gave him a gracious smile, recognizing him now as a fellow parent. She turned her attention to Deanna amidst the legs of various noteworthy people. For the most part, people were accepting the disruption with grace, even amusement.
Little One? Mother is working, and you are causing a distraction that is not helping me.
Deanna stopped, her eyes peering across the way to her, before summoning all the dignity that a small child could.
"I am sorry," she said, projecting contrition to those who were not mind blind. Her nanny added a quiet apology to the pair closest, and scooped Deanna up to carry her back to the house.
"Ambassador Troi, she will be a credit with such fearlessness," Thek said once Lwaxana had refocused on him.
She gave a small smile. "I give her what freedom I can, that is safe for her, so she can explore."
"Children have a way of pushing their safe spaces ever outward," Thek said, nodding sagely.
"So they will," she answered.

After spending the winter along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, Gray Catbirds are back in Vermont!
They're named for their characteristic nasal "mreeennnh!" call that sounds like a cat impatient for dinner. They're related to mockingbirds and can also mimic other birds' songs and miscellaneous noises, but unlike mockingbirds which tend to perform an imitation several times in a row clearly, Gray Catbirds do a chattery stream-of-consciousness jumble of bits and pieces of different things.
The all-gray plumage with a darker cap makes them easy to recognize. In this photo you can also see a glimpse of the rust-red undertail coverts. Males and females look alike. Their bills are black; this one's looks mottled because it's got suet on it. We've had two in the yard lately which are both very into the suet, and they will fly in and rudely body-check the other one off the feeder if they feel like it.

With these next two posts, we reach the end of the Justice League’s “international era,” the meteoric, controversial period that began with the loss of the “Detroit League” and ended with Grant Morrison and Howard Porter’s JLA #1. That era struggled along for four years and change after Giffen and DeMatteis left, never coming close to its glory days. ( Or even its General Glory days. )

Nearly two months after I Received My Starship Model, I finally assembled, tested, and photographed my new toy. And the model is stunning! I am extremely pleased.
Any time I get a new toy – mainly anime figurines – I do a photo session. The TOMY Enterprise photographs beautifully, also.

Does anyone know how to make the comments on joseimuke less ugly? I dislike that there's no Quick Reply, but more importantly, when you're replying to a comment it doesn't show the comment you're replying to unless you press the Preview button. I also don't know how I would make it so replies indent, but other than that I can fix the rest of the ugliness myself. But is some of the more technical stuff fixable, or should I give up and find another layout even though I really like the current one?
