I finally figured out how to answer this question in the State of Me meme: I should really watch/read/dive into _______ and then come talk to you about it!
What y'all should really dive into is Habit RPG or Habitica. It's basically a system where you get RPG type rewards for doing RL stuff. As crazy as it sounds, the health benefits of drinking 6 glasses of water a day doesn't inspire me. Having little cute pets to collect and ride does. Also there's actual XP and HP level gauges to let you see how your RL choices are affecting you. XD
It probably helps that I've already been using Trello to make to do lists. The format of Habit RPG is similar, except that you're restricted to three lists that you can use. Personally I'd rename the lists because that's not how I use them at all.
The first list is Habits. It's supposed to keep track of both good and bad habits that you have, marked nicely with + and - (or both!). The problem is that it doesn't really work for habits that need to be repeated frequently. I personally use it as a wishlist of habits - I put in good habits I want to cultivate, and bad habits I want to kick. If I keep either up for 21 days, I kick the bad habits from the list, and put the good habits into Dailies.
Right now, for good habits I want to make daily I have:
1) Meet with friends (because as much as I love them I can't meet with them every day)
2) Skincare routine
3) Exercise (with a - for times when I lounge in front of the TV instead of exercising)
4) Pick up one thing per day
5) Go to bed around 11pm (and a - for when I got to bed after 12am)
6) Post something online (vs Binging Internet for 2 hours without reblogging/post aka most of my Tumblr surfing)
Dailies is the second list but it's not really Dailies. It's for anything that gets repeated within a week.
Right now, what I do each week is:
1) Daily morning stretches
2) Daily 750 words (upgraded from Habits)
3) Daily update of meal logging app
4) Drink 6 glasses of water
5) Weekly planning week ahead for maximum 40 minutes
There will probably be more to come as Habits turn into Dailies.
The last list is To Dos, which is really a catch all for anything that doesn't fall in the first two categories. I personally use it for things that have fixed dates, or project milestones. Right now I have:
1) Plan outing for 28th week
2) Started a project you've been putting off
3) Took care of something gross
4) Finished something annoying to do
2 to 4 are part of this other thing that Habit RPG has - Challenges and Quests. Challenges are lists other people put together for you that you can join in and get rewards for. Quests are lists that you make up with other people and do together. Like quests, you can deal different damages to your evil tasks if your character is advanced enough to pick a class.
So yes. Who would like to go questing with me in Habit RPG? *pets white cat like a movie villain*
