Content Notes: Mami takes time to be convinced of what magic girls really are. Spoilers for Episodes 8 - 10.
This is the first time a magic girl has used mind games instead of attacks to drive Mami from her turf.
“When our Soul Gems go dark, we turn into witches!” Akemi Homura says.
It can’t be true, Mami reasons. Her magic saves people. How can it doom them as well?
There is no proof until Sayaka tells Mami, “The balance of hope and despair will always lead to zero.” Afterwards, she turns into a witch.
When they have defeated Sayaka, Mami decides. If magic girls must despair, she’ll make sure their despair doesn’t hurt anyone.
She loads her musket.
